We are very excited about our upcoming Ladbrokes Hobart Cup Calcutta, however, there are a lot of people who have never attended a Calcutta and don’t quite know how it all works.
Here’s what you need to know:
WHEN: Friday 7th February 2025
WHERE: The Crown Lager Bar, Ladbrokes Park Elwick
TIME: 7:00pm - 9:30pm | Draw: 8:00pm | Auction: 8:30pm

THE TICKET DRAW
Tickets are available from the Crown Lager Bar through the Derby Day afternoon. Tickets are limited so get in quick before they sell out!
The Calcutta commences with one ticket being drawn for each runner in the Ladbrokes Hobart Cup.
If your ticket is drawn, you ‘“own” that horse ahead of the auction stage! All proceeds from the ticket draw go into the prize pool.
THE RULES
1. You may purchase more than one ticket.
2. All tickets purchased are placed into a random draw.
3. If your ticket is drawn you
Sell your horse and take 50% of the auction price, the remaining 50% going into the prize pool.
You can bid on your own horse to retain ownership and only pay 50% of winning bid price
4. Only ticket holders may bid on the auction.
5. If your ticket is drawn and you are not in attendance, your horse will be auctioned and 100% of proceeds will go into the prize pool.
6. If a horse is scratched, all monies are forfeited.
7. No refunds.
8. Successful bidders must pay for their horses on the night - Cash and EFTPOS facilities will be available.
THE AUCTION
Each horse will be auctioned to tickets holders at the Calcutta, who then have the opportunity to bid for that horse.
After the hammer falls on each runner:
- 50% of the sale price goes into the prize pool.
- The highest bidder in the auction becomes the new owner of that horse.
AFTER THE RACE
After the running of the Ladbrokes Hobart Cup on Sunday 9th February 2025, the prize pool (consisting of all ticket sales plus 50% of auction proceeds) is divided as follows:
- 50% to the owner of the winning horse
- 25% to the owner of the second place getter
- 15% to the owner of the third place getter
* 10% will be donated to the Tasmanian Racing Club Museum *
Tickets for the Ladbrokes Hobart Cup Calcutta can only be purchased by persons over the age of 18.
